What is Gatsbi?
Gatsbi is an AI research assistant from Gatsbi AI Limited that helps researchers, PhD students and academics go from a rough idea to a manuscript: it proposes hypotheses, drafts papers with verifiable citations and synthesizes published evidence through systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
What is Gatsbi used for?
Gatsbi is split into three modules. Gatsbi Innovator returns ten or more research ideas for a topic, each with an originality score and supporting references. Gatsbi Writer drafts complete papers with LaTeX equations, figures, tables, charts and in-text citations that point to real publications. Gatsbi Reviewer handles systematic literature reviews and meta-analysis. It can also draft patent disclosures in 11 languages.
How does Gatsbi work?
You describe your field or research question and pick a module. For a meta-analysis, Gatsbi searches academic databases, screens studies, accepts your own PDFs or a Zotero list, and extracts effect sizes, confidence intervals and sample sizes. It then fits fixed- or random-effects models, reports heterogeneity (I² and Q) and draws forest and funnel plots in a PRISMA-style workflow. Output exports to Word, LaTeX or Markdown in APA, IEEE, Harvard, Chicago or AMA style.
Who is Gatsbi for?
- PhD candidates writing a thesis or a first journal paper.
- Research teams that need a systematic review done faster.
- R&D staff documenting inventions before meeting a patent attorney.
Gatsbi pros and cons
On the plus side: citations to real sources, ideation, writing and statistics in one app, and on desktop you can plug in your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google API keys while history stays on your machine. On the downside, prompts are still sent to third-party AI providers, the desktop app only runs on Windows 10/11 and Apple Silicon Macs, and the company itself states it does not guarantee publication, so drafts need expert review before submission.
