What is Rosebud AI?
Rosebud AI is an AI game maker that lets you create games in the browser from a plain-language prompt. It comes from a San Francisco company founded in 2019 and backed by Y Combinator, and is aimed at hobbyists, students, teachers, indie developers and creators who want to make a game without coding or prototype much faster. The company says more than one million creators have made over 2.5 million games.
What is Rosebud AI used for?
You type a line like "a cozy garden tycoon" and its assistant, Rosie, asks a few questions (2D or 3D, mobile or desktop, solo or multiplayer) and builds a first playable version with code, art and music. You can make RPGs, platformers, horror, racing, puzzle, sports, sims or visual novels, in 2D, in 3D with Three.js, or as voxel worlds. It also generates sprites, sounds, 3D models and 360° skyboxes.
How do you edit and publish a game on Rosebud AI?
Every game is a real project with a code editor, asset manager and live build that you keep improving through chat, and if you code you can edit everything. Multiplayer games support private or public rooms. Games share as a link that plays in any desktop or mobile browser, can be played inside the X feed, and can be published to Rosebud Play, where others can play or remix them. Higher tiers let you download your code, export a Windows build for Steam and publish from Claude Code, Codex or Cursor.
Who is Rosebud AI for?
- People with no coding experience who want to make their first game.
- Teachers and students learning game design.
- Indie developers prototyping ideas quickly.
- Creators who want to ship web games or reach Steam.
Rosebud AI pros and cons
Pros: it runs in the browser with nothing to install, produces a playable game in minutes and keeps the code open for further work. Cons: every edit uses credits and premium models use far more, private projects, commercial rights and Steam export sit on higher tiers, and complex games still take iteration and design judgment.
