What is Genmo?
Genmo is an AI lab building video world models that understand and simulate the physical world; its flagship model, Mochi 1, turns a text prompt into a realistic video clip. You can use it in Genmo's web playground or download it and run it on your own machine.
What is Genmo used for?
It generates short videos from a prompt, such as a slow-motion shot of breaking glass or a time-lapse of a street artist. The playground offers random example prompts and lets you download your clips for social posts, ads or mockups.
What is Mochi 1?
It is a 10-billion-parameter diffusion model built on the Asymmetric Diffusion Transformer architecture, trained from scratch and released under the Apache 2.0 license. Genmo describes it as the largest video generative model ever openly released, with high-fidelity motion and strong prompt adherence.
Can Genmo run locally?
- Yes, the code is on GitHub and the weights on Hugging Face.
- With ComfyUI it runs on consumer GPUs with under 20 GB of VRAM.
- You can train LoRA fine-tunes on your own videos.
What are Mochi 1's limitations?
Genmo calls it a research preview: it outputs 480p video, can show minor warping with extreme motion and is tuned for photorealism, so it does less well with animated content.
Genmo pros and cons
- Pro: open model under the Apache 2.0 license
- Pro: usable on the web or on your own hardware
- Pro: supports LoRA fine-tuning
- Con: 480p output in the current release
- Con: weaker results with animated content

What resolution are Genmo videos?
The current Mochi 1 release generates video at 480p resolution.
Can I use Genmo videos commercially?
Yes, the Lite and Standard tiers include commercial use and remove the watermark.
Can I fine-tune Mochi on my own videos?
