What is Telos?
Telos is an AI platform from Telos Platform, Inc. that takes a goal specification written by a person and has cloud agents build, test, deploy and maintain the software service behind it, aimed at engineering teams that already work with coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex.
What is Telos and what is it used for?
Telos is built around what founder Rohan Gupta calls goal-oriented software engineering. Instead of storing and reviewing piles of generated code, your team keeps a goal file (SPEC.md) that describes the interfaces, features and constraints of a service, and the code is treated like a compiled artifact. To change the service, you edit the goal and the platform reconciles what is running. Telos Cloud launched on August 31, 2026 and is in open beta.
How does Telos work?
You install the CLI, sign in and add the telos-cli skill to your coding agent. You then draft the goal by pairing with that agent and launch it. Each goal gets a persistent virtual machine with checkpoint and restore, default-deny egress and a stable hostname. Inside it, a pair of adversarial agents iterate until the spec is met, while acceptance rubrics are graded independently. A background agent wakes up every six hours to check the running service against its goal, and change requests wait for a human to confirm them.
Who should use Telos?
- Engineering teams shipping a lot of agent-written code who are tired of maintaining it by hand.
- Developers who want tailor-made internal services, such as product analytics, without a maintenance burden.
- Organizations that want to version specs, skills and rubrics in a shared registry.
Telos pros and cons
- Pro: the goal becomes a versioned, human-readable source of truth.
- Pro: sandboxes ship with 40+ tools, from Python and Node.js to Kubernetes, Helm and OpenTofu.
- Pro: works with Telos-hosted models or your own OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter or xAI keys.
- Con: it is not an IDE or a vibe-coding tool, so you need to know precisely what you want built.
- Con: still in beta, and the CLI only runs on macOS and Linux.

Telos FAQ
What is Telos?
A cloud platform where you write a goal for a software service and AI agents build it, deploy it and keep it aligned with that spec.
Is Telos free?
There is an entry tier with no fixed fee where you pay only for what you use. See the pricing section of this listing for the full breakdown.
Does Telos replace Claude Code or Codex?
No. It works alongside them: you use your coding agent to draft the goal, and Telos builds, runs and monitors the service in the cloud.
Which AI models does Telos use?
You can pick Telos-hosted models (telos/default and telos/max), connect ChatGPT or xAI accounts, or bring your own OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter or xAI keys.
Does Telos have an API?
The site does not document a public REST API. You work through its CLI, whose source is on GitHub, and the telos-cli skill for coding agents.
Does Telos work in Spanish?
The site, docs and CLI are in English. Goals are free text, but the platform does not advertise specific support for languages other than English.
Which operating systems does the Telos CLI support?
macOS and Linux, on both amd64 and arm64. The services themselves run on Telos Cloud virtual machines.
Is it safe to let Telos agents change a live service?
Each sandbox denies outbound traffic by default and keeps restore points, and change requests wait for a human to confirm them before they are applied.
What are some Telos alternatives?
With different approaches, Replit and Lovable build and host apps with AI, and Claude Code writes code from the terminal; all three are listed on GptZone.
Is Telos production-ready?
Telos Cloud has been in open beta since late August 2026, so it is sensible to start with internal or low-risk services.
